October Beacon article

 Dear Church Family:
The past three-and-a-half weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind as you have welcomed me into the First Baptist Church community. I am indebted to so many of you and have been overwhelmed by your generosity. Special thanks go to:
  • Pastor Joel and Debbie who have welcomed me in their home many times in this transition.
  • Jim and Debbie Payne who came to South Carolina and helped load, clean, transport, and have continued to dog-sit for Grady until I get into the house I am buying later this week.
  • Pam and Danny Lipscomb who helped me connect with temporary housing in a home that Pam’s parents own.
  • Many of you who showed up to unload my moving truck and discovered just how much stuff I have accumulated over the years.
  • Those who have provided meals in your homes or in restaurants and the great conversations that have accompanied those times.
  • All those who have prayed for me in this transition.

Fall Rally at Camp Cowen was September 14-15 at Camp Cowen. It was my first road trip with our
teens and advisors and it was a great experience. It was a wonderful time for me to get to know many of our teens better. Camp Cowen is a terrific facility for ministry.

We have a wonderful team of adult Youth Ministry Advisors who give so much of themselves. Please join me in praying for them regularly! Their work with our teens is making a difference in their lives.

Upcoming Well Events
  • DARE 2 SHARE is October 13 at Breckenridge Baptist in Bolt. WV. We will meet at 8:40 AM for a light breakfast and depart by 9:00 for a day of learning how to share our faith. Anticipated return time is 9:00 PM. Cost to our teens is $12.00. Sign up deadline is Sunday, September 30.
  • Fifth Quarter after Saint Albans home football games will be October 19, October 26, and November 2. These are important times to connect with teens from the community and provide a safe place for them to gather after the games.
  • Junior High Convention is November 16-18 at Calvary Baptist in Oak Hill, WV. We have not received registration materials and the fee has not been announced yet. You should plan on paying about $40 for the weekend.
  • Well Advisors Meeting will be Wednesday, October 17 at 7:40 PM.

I look forward to deepening friendships with you and many years of productive ministry for the kingdom of God.
Faithfully,

Roger
